Limewash is different from conventional paint. Rather than forming a plastic-like film over the surface, traditional limewash works with compatible mineral materials to create a soft, breathable finish with subtle color variation and a naturally aged appearance.

Exterior Limewash

Brick, masonry, stucco, and other compatible exterior surfaces can be transformed with a mineral finish that softens the appearance while allowing the character underneath to remain.

Interior Limewash

Limewash can also create beautiful interior walls with soft movement, tonal variation, and a matte mineral appearance that changes throughout the day with the light.

Limewash is especially well suited to many traditional mineral surfaces, giving brick and masonry a lighter, quieter appearance without completely hiding their natural texture.

What is limewash?

Limewash is a traditional mineral finish made primarily from lime and mineral pigments. It creates a soft, matte surface with subtle movement and variation rather than the uniform appearance of conventional paint.

Can you limewash brick?

Yes. Brick and masonry are some of the surfaces most commonly associated with limewash. We evaluate the existing material and any previous coatings first to determine whether the surface is suitable.

Does limewash look perfectly even?

Usually not — and that is part of its appeal. Limewash naturally develops tonal variation and movement across the surface, creating a finish that feels softer and more organic than conventional paint.

Can limewash go over existing paint?

It depends on the existing coating and the surface underneath. Traditional limewash performs best on compatible mineral surfaces, so we inspect the wall first and determine what preparation or mineral system is appropriate.
